Back on My Pulpit

Please please please people.  There is a time and place for brain dead television vegging but things have gotten way out of control. I can’t believe what passes for TV these days.  The brain dead, no talent fools that are famous only because we, no you, are the ones telling lack of creation Hollywood execs that this is what passes for entertainment because you watch it. Please don’t do it anymore!

I’ve made my point a thousand times that the world started swirling down the toilet with 24 hour TV.  24 hour sports.  24 hour news.  24 pet shitting.  COME ON!!!  I will guarantee that if people would get out more and interact on a human level things would get better immediately.   Watch TV, it’s fine.  Just watch more history and learn about our country and the people that gave their lives to give us what we have.  They didn’t sit on a couch all day to make their mark on history… they sat on the couch NEVER!  Granted there was no TV for most of them but their down time was spent debating and thinking with friends and FOES!  Often the friend WAS the foe, and it was fine! Everyone’s time now is spent watching people on TV that… well I don’t even know what they are.  No talent, no brains, with no reason to be acknowledged.  I’m starting to relearn all I forgot in history class, please do the same so we can be the awesome country we were in those history books.  If not we are going to turn out like the movie Idiocracy. The last 10 years we have taken a drastic turn toward it.  My one voice will do nothing, we are on our way to Idiocracy if we all don’t act.

We are no longer a nation of innovators and thinkers. We’re a nation of regurgitaters and followers.

President Barack Obama

Last night was a truly historic night in our country’s history. With this election we were going to have a historic outcome no matter who won. We were either going to have a woman in the White House or an African American in the White House for the first time. In the end, Barack Obama won, giving us our first African American in the White House. Obama is an amazing orator and his skills came through loud and clear with his acceptance speech. Stressing the change and the spirit of “Yes we can” if his speech did move you and give you hope you are as hard headed as they come and don’t believe in democracy, but rather yourself. Obama has an unbelievably hard job in front of him. The White House he is inheriting is in great turmoil and the country he now has to lead is so divided that to get the USA back on track seems impossible. But with his inspiration and spirit I believe that Obama can break down the ugly barriers both literal and figurative that plague this country and once again make us the UNITED States of America instead of the Divided States of American that we have been the last couple of years. Will it be hard, yes? Are we entitled to different views, yes? Can we work together even though we have these different views, yes? Can WE ALL do it TOGETHER for the betterment of future generations, yes we can.

How Times Have Changed

A speech from our first president who had a dad that was a president, not the second moronic one.

John Quincy Adams

Warning Against the Search for “Monsters to Destroy,” 1821

And now, friends and countrymen, if the wise and learned philosophers of the elder world, the first observers of nutation and aberration, the discoverers of maddening ether and invisible planets, the inventors of Congreve rockets and Shrapnel shells, should find their hearts disposed to enquire what has America done for the benefit of mankind? Let our answer be this: America, with the same voice which spoke herself into existence as a nation, proclaimed to mankind the inextinguishable rights of human nature, and the only lawful foundations of government. America, in the assembly of nations, since her admission among them, has invariably, though often fruitlessly, held forth to them the hand of honest friendship, of equal freedom, of generous reciprocity. She has uniformly spoken among them, though often to heedless and often to disdainful ears, the language of equal liberty, of equal justice, and of equal rights. She has, in the lapse of nearly half a century, without a single exception, respected the independence of other nations while asserting and maintaining her own. She has abstained from interference in the concerns of others, even when conflict has been for principles to which she clings, as to the last vital drop that visits the heart. She has seen that probably for centuries to come, all the contests of that Aceldama the European world, will be contests of inveterate power, and emerging right. Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be. But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own. She will commend the general cause by the countenance of her voice, and the benignant sympathy of her example. She well knows that by once enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom. The fundamental maxims of her policy would insensibly change from liberty to force…. She might become the dictatress of the world. She would be no longer the ruler of her own spirit….

[America’s] glory is not dominion, but liberty. Her march is the march of the mind. She has a spear and a shield: but the motto upon her shield is, Freedom, Independence, Peace. This has been her Declaration: this has been, as far as her necessary intercourse with the rest of mankind would permit, her practice.

Study Shows Third of Studies Useless

CNN.com – Research: Third of study results don’t hold up

Wow this is a great study. It’s a study to prove that a third of all studies are useless. Great appropriation of government funds. I can do this study for you free of charge and get better results. I think a third is being very conservative and I would have to say that over half of these studies are nonsense. Oh yea, a study I just read says that you should take aspirin every day. No wait, this study says aspirin causes cancer. There are too many of these where insert item x here is good for you, no it’s bad for you. Reflection of Society

I have to make a brief crotchety old man rant. I woke up this morning and checked my dozen morning news and bargain sites and CNN.com’s top story was the ‘America Idol’ winner. Are you serious? In the previous 36 hours there have been a dozen American soldiers KIA in Iraq and the top story in the US is who won ‘American Idol.’ This is a reflection of the state of the society that we live in. Everyone wants to take a stance on the war and give their two cents but now apparently thousands of people dying isn’t as important as reality our coveted reality TV. We are at war yet I’m so glad I know the outcome of some stupid TV show. It appears that Americans don’t care about anything unless it is on TV 24/7. Everyone cared about the war and had an opinion about it when it was on TV 24/7. Now that it’s only a blip on the nightly news and we are bombarded with reality TV show commercials instead of war reports our new passions and opinions have switched from invasion and war to who our favorite pop singer is. This short term memory, media driven, brainwashed, unable to make decisions for ourselves unless someone tells us what to think, TV (like big brother in our living rooms telling us what we’re interested in) society that we live in today is a very disgusting thing. Props to FOX News on this one. They kept ‘American Idol’ off the front page although they do have “‘Jeopardy!’ King Dethroned.” But Ken Jennings is a tough guy to beat. Here is the contrast in headlines from CNN to FOX News:

CNN: ‘American Idol’ No. 4 named

FOX News: “Ten Die in Iraq Violence”

A big shame on you goes to CNN.
